Dundee turn their attention to Dunfermline midfielder Shaun Byrne

Dundee’s search for another midfield summer signing has moved from East Renfrewshire to East End Park.
After having had a bid for St Mirren’s Stevie Mallan knocked back, Courier Sport can reveal that the Dark Blues have opened discussions with Dunfermline’s Shaun Byrne.
The Dens Park club aren’t the only ones tracking the young central midfield playmaker however, as Hibs are also interested in him.
Byrne, like the rest of the Pars’ first team squad, is out of contract in the summer.
And, as he turns 23 in June, Dundee wouldn’t have to pay a development fee for a player who has come through the ranks at Dunfermline.
Byrne was an important member of their 2013 Scottish Youth Cup final squad, outplaying man of the moment John McGinn in the semi-final, before moving up to the first team.
And Dundee assistant Gerry McCabe knows all about his potential from his own time with the League One champions.
Dunfermline’s title success has had the scouts flocking to Fife this season, with top scorer Faissal El Bakhtaoui and young forward PJ Crossan the subject of interest from Scotland and England.
