Forfar Athletic have admitted their disappointment at seeing their scheduled trip to face league leaders Rangers on Saturday November 16 postponed.
Further international call-ups prompted the Ibrox club to request the call-off, meaning that a new date will have to be found for the eagerly-anticipated League One fixture.
The Loons had been forwarded tickets to sell for the November 16 clash and had expected the match to go ahead as planned, but the Glasgow giants were forced to act after it became clear that at least three of their players would be needed for international duty.
A club spokesman at Station Park said: “It has to be emphasised that Forfar Athletic have no complaint with the Ibrox club on this issue, as they have attempted as best they could to feed us up-to-the-minute information as it came to hand.
“Similarly, Forfar Athletic have attempted to keep supporters fully informed over the past week as the scenario developed.
“Loons officials realise that this news will come as a disappointment to supporters, some of whom were looking to make a weekend trip to Glasgow taking in the Friday night Scotland fixture as a bonus.”
A midweek slot next month, likely to be either December 3 or 4, has been put forward as the most likely date for the rearranged fixture, although nothing has yet been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Dick Campbell’s men warmed up for this weekend’s league clash at home to Brechin with a 2-2 draw against junior side Tayport.
Stuart Malcolm put the home side ahead at Station Park before the break but goals from Steven McPhee and Kris Rollo put the Fifers in front before Paul McLellan levelled late on.
