Dundee are understood to have joined Aberdeen in the hunt for Arbroath midfielder Mark Whatley, with both clubs looking to have the 24-year-old join them for training before the end of the season.
The Dons have been leading the chase for the former Raith Rovers youth player, who joined Arbroath from Lowland League outfit Spartans on a two-year deal.
However they now face competition from the Dark Blues.
Neither club may get the chance to see the player close up though.
Arbroath boss Allan Moore said: “Whilst we would not stand in Mark’s way he is playing with a slight injury just now that needs resting between games. If he is not 100% right he will not be training elsewhere as he will not be able to fully do himself justice and we have a crucial few games coming up.”
