Scott Brown insists there are still enough points up for grabs as Scotland look to get their 2016 Euro qualifying hopes back on track against Germany at Hampden Park tonight.
Gordon Strachan’s side suffered an unexpected 1-0 defeat in Georgia on Friday night which left them in fourth place in Group D, one point behind the Republic of Ireland who now occupy the third place play-off spot with 12 points.
World champions Germany moved on to 16 points at the top of the section with a 3-1 home win over Poland who are two points behind.
Scotland face the Germans before a double-header against the Poles and minnows Gibraltar next month.
And while disappointed with the result in Tbilisi, the Scotland captain claims they can still make the finals in France next summer.
“There are still nine points to play for,” he said. “If we can get anything against Germany, it will be great.
“It is going to be hard. We know what a good team they are but on our day, with 50,000 fans at Hampden, anything can happen.
“We are as disappointed as everyone else is (after Georgia).
“It was a great chance for us to get a point or three on the board and we didn’t (take it).
“That’s gone now and we need to focus on the nine points that we have got left.”
The Celtic skipper, however, admits it will take an outstanding performance to get anything against the World Cup holders.
“We have got over that Georgia result and we need to focus on the game ahead,” he said.
“The performance wasn’t great but it was still good enough to get a point or a victory on another day.
“Sometimes you need a little bit of luck and they got that luck.
“We are playing the world champions tonight and we are going to need a full house behind us for 90 minutes but the performance has to be outstanding to try to get anything.
“I think everyone has to be at their best and it has to be a team performance.
“We will also need some luck and individual brilliance as well but we have definitely got that in the team.”
