Colin Cameron will enjoy looking at his newspaper this morning after sub Greg Stewart’s late strike stunned the Bairns and lifted his side up the table.
His Cowdenbeath side were pointless and bottom of the pile until back-to-back wins over Dumbarton and Falkirk made for much happier reading.
He said: “If you pick up the newspaper and see you’re at the bottom of the table it’s going to affect you mentally.
“So for the lads to look in the paper and see they’re seventh in the table, just a point behind three teams, it gives them a lift and incentive to go to Hamilton next week and try to get the three points.”
A bore draw looked likely but Cameron’s men kept going and hesitancy in the away defence allowed Stewart to find the net with his 88th-minute strike.
Cowdenbeath started well with Jon Robertson testing Michael McGovern in goal and Kane Hemmings setting up Marc McKenzie for an effort that flashed wide.
The Bairns missed a fabulous chance when Philip Roberts sprung the offside trap but with just Grant Adam to beat he scuffed his shot into the keeper’s hands.
Then a slip by Thomas O’Brien allowed Jay Fulton to skip to the byline and pull the ball back for Kieran Duffie but the right-back’s finish lacked power when he should have burst the net.
Falkirk’s Rory Loy threatened an opener but Adam twice denied him within minutes and Fulton had their only real chance in the second half, the midfielder’s deflected strike forcing the keeper into a full-stretch stop.
Loan Ranger Hemmings almost caught out McGovern at his near post and the striker then set up Jordan Morton in 64 minutes only for the sub to blaze his shot over the top.
Skipper John Armstrong’s header forced the Bairns keeper into a one-handed stop on the line and Falkirk survived a loud penalty claim before Stewart struck with two minutes left.
