The Dunfermline board have issued a statement in the wake of Saturday’s defeat at Brechin which ended the Pars slim hopes of winning promotion this season.
The Fife side parted company with manager Jim Jefferies in December with Dunfermline sitting fourth in the table, five points behind leaders Forfar.
John Potter took over in the East End hotseat but he has failed to spark a renewed title challenge with the team only winning five times since he took charge and they currently lie in seventh place, 16 points behind leaders Stranraer.
The latest 3-0 defeat at Glebe Park meant the Pars had also missed out on the chance of going up through the play-offs and they now face a third season in League One next term.
Potter’s future was not mentioned directly in the statement however a “full review” has been launched by the club.
The statement read: “As supporters themselves, the Board of DAFC are deeply disappointed with the league position of our proud club at this time.
“A fuller statement will be released at the end of the season, however, no further comment will be made at this time as we have a number of football commitments to meet between now and then.
“A full review and assessment process is already underway.
“We would thank all Pars supporters for their fantastic support during this very difficult season.”
