Brechin boss Ray McKinnon will not be taking any chances with centre-half Gerry McLauchlan as he recovers from a calf problem.
The defender is an important player for the Glebe gaffer but the nature of his injury means no risks can be taken as City look to secure their place in the League One play-offs with Brechin needing just a point from their remaining two games to do so.
The Angus side won without McLauchlan again on Saturday, beating the full-timers of Dunfermline with the game marking the return to action of Alan Trouten a month after he broke his ribs.
The 29-year-old, who was yesterday named as one of the contenders for the PFA Scotland League One Player of the Year Award, scored two of Brechin’s three goals with Andy Jackson netting the other and McKinnon admitted he is delighted with the contribution of both players.
The manager said: “Gerry trained last Thursday night but he was not ready for the Dunfermline game.
“We want to make sure he is totally fit before bringing him back and calf injuries can be tricky ones to heal.
“On the bright side, it was great to have Alan Trouten back and scoring two goals.
“We thought his season was over as he was looking at up to eight weeks out with his broken ribs but he has come back in just five.
“He is not quite 100% fit but we were just delighted to get 70 minutes out of him.
“He is an important player for us and a great professional.
“It was also pleasing to see Andy Jackson scoring another goal at the weekend.
“That’s five in six games and overall we seem to be hitting form at exactly the right time.
“We have drawn two and won three of our last five matches and it would be great to get over the finishing line and into the play-offs by getting the right result at Stenhousemuir on Saturday.
“However, we are certainly not taking anything for granted.”
