David Templeton hopes his goal against Falkirk can provide the boost he badly needs to kick-start his season.
The Rangers winger has been unable to nail down a place in manager Ally McCoist’s plans this season and has struggled with erratic form.
But he believes he can take a massive amount of confidence from his late strike as Rangers claimed a 2-0 William Hill Scottish Cup win against the Bairns on Saturday.
Nicky Law opened the scoring after 89 minutes, before substitute Templeton sealed the victory deep into injury time in the fourth-round tie.
Templeton said: “The gaffer said to me when I came on to try to win the game. I know Nicky scored but to get a goal myself is good and will help my confidence.
“I have not been playing great recently when I have been in the team so hopefully I can kick on from this.
“Confidence is important for every player. When you are confident and playing well, you always want the ball and you’re happy to take people on.
“I think against Dunfermline recently I was trying to do too much. I need to get back to basics and try to get the confidence back.”
Falkirk played the last half an hour with 10 men after David McCracken was shown a straight red card for hauling down Nicky Clark in the box.
