Brechin boss Ray McKinnon was left lamenting missed chances after a late goal earned Peterhead a point.
Paul McLean gave the Glebe Park side the lead early in the second half before former Aberdeen player Jordan Brown grabbed the equaliser four minutes from time.
McKinnon said: “That was a game we should have won. We had chances in the first half, missed a penalty, had more chances in the second half, then got caught by a sucker punch.
“We played some great stuff, particularly in the first half and should have been out of sight.
“We passed the ball fantastically and got in behind them and might have been two or three up at half-time.
“We got our goal, then possibly stopped playing for a period. I’m devastated to lose a goal four minutes from the end, when we should certainly have put the game to bed.”
Peterhead had the first chance of the game in three minutes when a snapshot from Jamie Stevenson was tipped over by Graeme Smith.
The Brechin keeper’s namesake in the Peterhead goal was by far the busier, however, and on 16 minutes Bobby Barr’s shot was saved by the feet of Smith.
Calum Tapping went on a solo run and shot over, then Barr had another shot saved by Smith.
Brechin missed a great chance to take the lead in 35 minutes. Tapping was brought down by Graeme Sharp and Andy Jackson had his spot-kick brilliantly saved by Smith.
Brechin took the lead on 50 minutes. Jamie Redman made a hash of dealing with a Tapping free-kick and central defender McLean was all on his own to score.
Barr hit the crossbar before Smith pulled off a fine save from a 40-yard swerving free-kick from Stevenson.
Robert Thomson lobbed just over on 74 minutes and Brechin were made to pay when a cross from Graeme Sharp was headed home by Brown.
