Forfar boss grateful for chance to sign ‘real quality player’ Jim Paterson

Forfar boss Dick Campbell has thanked his board of directors for allowing him to bring in another “quality” player in the shape of Jim Paterson.

The 34-year-old former Dundee United, Motherwell, Plymouth and Bristol Rovers defender was signed on a short-term deal until January on Tuesday night.

He will link up with other players such as Danny Denholm, Dale Hilson, Stephen Husband and Derek Young who joined the Loons during the summer from full-time clubs.

Campbell firmly believes the former Scotland under-21 international will be a valuable addition to his squad as Forfar look to capitalise on what has been a promising start to the season in League 1.

The manager said: “I felt after Aaron James was injured that we were lacking in cover but Jim is more than just cover, he is a real quality player with a lot of experience.

“I was very impressed by how much he wanted to come to Forfar. That is important to me.

“So I am absolutely delighted to have him on board and he will get a run-out in tonight’s Forfarshire Cup tie with Brechin.

“I must thank the chairman and the club directors for allowing me to sign him. He is a great addition to the squad and hopefully he will help us continue what has been a reasonable start to the season.

“We may have lost late on to league leaders Ayr but we have beaten the two full-time sides in the league in Dunfermline and Morton, as well as taking a point away to Stranraer.

“No one is getting carried away but we can look forward to our next game a week on Saturday against Peterhead with some confidence.”

Tonight’s Forfarshire Cup tie at Station Park kicks off at 7.45pm.

Prices have been cut to £5 for adults and £3 concessions. Forfar season ticket holders should use voucher 7.
