Dunfermline captain Andy Geggan insists the Pars are desperate to be part of what he believes will be the best league in Scotland.
The Fife outfit can secure their promotion back to the second tier on Sunday if they beat Cowdenbeath in the play-off final second leg at East End Park.
Geggan had Jim Jefferies’ side in the driving seat in Wednesday’s first leg but his header was cancelled out by Thomas O’Brien.
Dunfermline slipped into League One following their administration but they are now eager to be involved in a division that includes Rangers and Hearts next term.
Geggan said: “It would mean everything to get back up, that’s what we have been playing for all season. It would be devastating to stay in the league we’re in.
“The Championship is going to be the best league in Scotland, it would be amazing to get up there. I’m just glad we’ve got the financial side sorted and we’re heading in the right direction.
“We need to get up there to keep the club going.”
Dunfermline expect around 8,000 supporters for Sunday’s crunch match and Geggan insists the team will be able to revert to a style of football that suits them following the difficult conditions they encountered on Wednesday.
He added: “Being such a small and tight pitch, it was just a game of throw-ins, it wasn’t a great game at all.
“We’re just happy to get that 1-1 draw and take it back to our place. We always knew it was going to be a battle.Whoever wins the battle would win the game. It’s going to be a completely different game on Sunday.
“We like to play football at home and that’s going to be our aim. We had a big crowd at Cowdenbeath and they were unbelievable, hopefully that will be the same on Sunday.”
