Kevin Moon has targeted more goals for Raith Rovers after opening his account for his new club in the Ramsdens Cup win over Stirling.

The former Alloa and St Johnstone midfielder capitalised on a goalkeeping error to put Rovers 1-0 up midway through the second half, but it took a last gasp Joe Cardle strike to prevent extra time after Jordan White equalised from the spot two minutes from the end.

Moon said: “I need to add more goals to my game so I’m delighted to score on my first competitive game for the club.

“This was always going to be a tricky tie. They were coming here with nothing to fear and they made it sticky for us. The boys showed great character to get a winner considering they equalised as late as they did.

“We’re just delighted to be in the next round. As the gaffer said, winning is a habit so hopefully we can take this into next week.”

Rovers were frustrated by the well-organised League Two side until they were gifted the opener in the 73rd minute when Stirling goalkeeper David Crawford mis-hit a clearance straight to Moon, who slotted into the empty net via the inside of the post.

Stirling equalised when substitute Stephen Day was pulled down by David McGurn, and after referee Norris pointed to the spot, Jordan White stroked home the penalty kick.

With just two minutes left on the clock, it seemed the game was heading for extra time, until Cardle struck a stunning winner with the last kick of the match.

Sub Greig Spence robbed Jamie McCunnie 50 yards from goal, and released Cardle who sprinted clear to smash a left foot finish past Crawford.

Raith boss Grant Murray was delighted to have negotiated a tricky cup tie.

“The heads could’ve gone down when they equalised with two minutes to go but we showed character to get the winner,” he said.
