Dunfermline could have a surprise inclusion in their side for the last game of the league campaign at Airdrie on Saturday.
Striker Andy Kirk picked up what was thought to be a season-ending ankle injury against the same opponents last month.
However, Pars assistant manager Gerry McCabe revealed that the Northern Ireland front man has made a quicker-than-expected recovery and may work his way into contention for the game.
“Andy has responded well to treatment and returned to full training last Thursday,” he said.
“It did look like he would be out for the season when he was injured but he is now raring to go and is desperate to play against Airdrie.
“However, after being on the sidelines for so long, we will not be taking any chances with him.
“We will see how he copes with a full week’s training and our physio Gerry Docherty will assess whether he can play any part at Airdrie.
“Neil McGregor is also fit again and he will come into contention for the game.”
Saturday’s match may look meaningless on paper for the Pars but McCabe insists they will be going all out for three points in a bid to finish as high as third in the first division table.
They sit fourth behind Queen of the South who have a better goal difference and a game in hand.
That outstanding fixture is tomorrow night against Raith Rovers.
“We had a good victory on Saturday against Morton,” added McCabe.
“After our loss to Inverness, it was vital to pick up three points as we want to finish as high up the table as possible.
“Queen of the South are ahead of us at the moment so it would be nice if our Fife neighbours could do us a big favour.”
Defender Austin McCann has signed a new two-year deal but McCabe said no further contract business will be conducted by Pars boss Jim McIntyre until after Saturday’s match at Airdrie United.
