Cowdenbeath could welcome back one or two familiar faces into the starting line-up when they visit Dumbarton tomorrow.

Boss Jimmy Nicholl revealed that left back Kenny Adamson will come into contention for his first start in almost six months against the Sons, while fellow defender John Armstrong has also recovered from an ankle injury which has been troubling him since September.

Adamson had been sidelined since August, when scans revealed a stress fracture in his foot, but he made his long-awaited return to competitive action in the closing stages of Cowden’s 5-0 loss to Queen of the South and will come into Nicholl’s thoughts.

Likewise, Armstrong played in the Under 20s’ 7-0 win over Stirling Albion in midweek and is also ready to make his comeback.

Nicholl hopes the return of the pair will give the Championship strugglers a boost, while he is also hopeful Dean Brett will come back into the fold soon.

Brett has been on compassionate leave since the death of his partner Gemma Porteous last month but scored twice in the Development League side’s win on Tuesday night and will discuss his return with Nicholl.

“It’s obviously not about fitness with Dean if he was injured then you could maybe put a timeframe on him coming back,” Nicholl stressed.

“Whether he’s ready to play or not we’ll have a chat about it, but he’s back in training and it should hopefully help being back with the boys.

“He’s back in the club which I think will be good for him, but it’s totally up to him when he plays.”

Nicholl added that Darren Brownlie, Lewis Toshney and Thomas O’Brien were all due to train last night and will be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s match.
