Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong believes the future is bright at Tannadice despite Friday night’s frustrating stalemate at home to Ross County.
A draw with the Staggies meant United missed the chance to temporarily go top of the SPL, although the weekend’s results mean Peter Houston’s side sit just four points off the lead with a game in hand.
Armstrong believes the number of talented young Tangerines coming through the ranks himself included is cause for optimism.
”I think we’ve got a lot of ambition. It was a young team out there on Friday night a good few youngsters and I thought we did well,” he said.
”I thought we created a few chances, unlucky not to hit the net on occasions, and I don’t know how many corners we had but it was like a brick wall in the end.”
Another rising star looking to seize his chance is Ryan Dow, who made his first start of the season for United on Friday. With Gary Mackay-Steven injured, the 21-year-old is eager to stake a claim for a regular starting slot.
He said: ”I’ve been patient and got a wee run out the other week but I was just happy to get a start. Obviously Gaz has been brilliant at the start of this season and at the end of last season but if I play my own game I know I can do my job and try to fill his boots.
“He came in, grabbed his chance and he’s not looked back, so hopefully I can maybe do the same.
“There’s been a lot of talent here boys like Johnny Russell. We all played in the same youth team, and you’ve got guys like Scotty Allan, who has moved on now, Gaz, Stuart Armstrong and David Goodwillie.
“There’s also wee Ryan Gauld he’s a great talent for 16 years old and hopefully we can keep producing them.”
