Club captain Danny Wilson has become the latest Hearts star to express his willingness to stay at Tynecastle even if they are relegated, insisting he has “no issue” with playing in the Championship.
The former Ibrox kid penned a two-year deal with the Jambos last summer after his contract with Liverpool expired, and was immediately handed the armband.
Having shown glimpses of the quality which prompted the Anfield outfit to shell out £5 million to snap up the 18-year-old Wilson from Rangers in 2010, the young defender is likely to attract plenty of interest in the close season particularly if Hearts are relegated.
However, he is adamant he is happy in Edinburgh and would have no qualms about plying his trade in the second tier, echoing the recent sentiments of Jamie MacDonald and Dylan McGowan.
The Scotland international said: “I am contracted here for another year and, if I was to stay, there would be no problem with that. It depends what direction the club wants to go in.
“Personally, I’ve got a year left on my contract and I am not really in a hurry to go anywhere. I’ll just wait and weigh up what happens in the summer.
“I’d have no issue seeing that year out at Hearts. I signed for two years and I was fully intent on honouring that, regardless of what division the team is in.”
With victories now a necessity, Wilson will lead the Tynecastle side unbeaten in four games out against champions-elect Celtic on Saturday.
Remarkably, given Hearts’ lowly berth 16 points adrift at the foot of the Premiership, it is a clash which pitches the two clubs with the current longest unbeaten records in the league against each other.
Wilson added: “I’m not really thinking about playing in the Championship just yet because the season isn’t over.”
