Cowdenbeath could haul themselves off the foot of the Championship table if they can take three points from fellow strugglers Alloa.
The Fife club are hoping to build on their last two league outings, a 2-1 win at home to Queen of the South followed by a 0-0 draw at Dumbarton, and boss Jimmy Nicholl is keen to see his side use their first clean sheet of the season as a platform when they visit the Indodrill Stadium.
“The lads deserve great credit for posing so many problems for a team that had been four games undefeated before the match,” he said of the Dumbarton clash.
“It was the first shut out and it was something we fully deserved.
“We defended excellently as a team with the boys at the back in dominating form and they got fine support from the midfield.
“And the thing was we were creating chances as well and had so many good efforts which worked their ‘keeper with the likes of Kyle Miller and Ian Campbell both getting forward to test their goalkeeper.
“They did not look like players who are bottom of the league and that was so pleasing and there was no case of the heads being down, they worked so hard and deserved to win it.”
Cowden continue to feel the effects of the recent Rangers postponement and will not be back playing in front of their home fans at Central Park until November 4 a full six weeks after their last game there.
Nicholl admitted the cancellation of the Rangers game had come at the “wrong time” financially for the club, but from a playing point of view a number of first team players should be back available including Nat Wedderburn, John Armstrong, Dean Brett and Lewis Milne.
Experienced midfielder Colin Marshall, who won the old First Division with Falkirk, should also be available for selection after the necessary paperwork was rubber-stamped for his move during the week.
