Cowdenbeath are hopeful this afternoon’s home game against Queen of the South will get the green light as they aim to make it three wins out of three over the Doonhamers this term.
The frost covers have been down at Central Park for a few days now and club officials have given the game every chance to beat the weather, although much will depend on overnight temperatures.
The ground was said to be soft enough underneath the covers late on Thursday, and everyone associated with the Blue Brazil will be hoping there will be no repeat of the sudden deterioration which put paid to last weekend’s game against Rangers.
If the match does go ahead, Cowden will probably fancy their chances of taking all three points.
Two of their four victories in the Championship so far this season have been at the expense of today’s visitors, and boss Jimmy Nicholl will be looking for a repeat.
“After the disappointment of losing out on the Rangers game on Saturday we are desperate for the Queens game to go on this weekend,” he stressed.
“It is a big game for us and after going five games without a win we have to look to get all three points.
“Every game is difficult in this league but we have been fortunate to be able to win the two fixtures we’ve had with Queen of the South.
“We simply have to go out to make it a hat trick of wins over them if we can.”
On loan Celtic midfielder John Herron could make his Cowden debut this afternoon, although defender Dean Brett is still on compassionate leave after the death of his partner.
Midfielder Sammy Stewart is also still out, although he is understood to be nearing a first team return after several months on the sidelines with a severe groin injury.
The 23-year-old has stepped up his training and Nicholl has earmarked a return for the Northern Irishman in the first few weeks of February.
