There is no chance of complacency creeping into the Raith Rovers camp despite the Kirkcaldy club sitting pretty at the top of the first division.
Manager John McGlynn is keeping the feet of his squad firmly planted on the ground for now, after Jamie Mole’s injury-time winner against Ross County on Saturday saw his side leapfrog rivals Dunfermline to the league summit.
Although clearly delighted by the players’ achievement and the manner in which they pulled it off the Raith supremo is certain that there will be many more twists and turns in the title race.
Refusing to get carried away just yet, McGlynn insists that he’s happy to enjoy the team’s purple patch of form.
He said, “Obviously it’s pleasing but it’s the type of league where it can be us one week and somebody else the next.
“I’m sure it’ll tighten up and there’s certainly a long way still to go.
“But we’re delighted that we’re playing well and keeping clean sheets.”
Rovers have been particularly mean at the back, with goalkeeper David McGurn having kept six clean sheets in the league alone this season.
Still awaiting the return of Mark Campbell in the heart of defence, McGlynn’s men are living proof that a good team is built on a strong backline.
McGlynn admits that Raith’s defensive record is something to be proud of, but insists that fans visiting Stark’s Park should not expect to witness catenaccio.
He added, “We’ve only lost five goals against us in ten games and on average that’s half a goal a game.
“But you’re always liable to win football matches by getting goals at the other end.
“We certainly don’t set up defensively but we work hard throughout the team to put our opponents under pressure.
“Maybe that takes some of the pressure off the defence and we keep on getting clean sheets, which the team are delighted with.”
