Virgil van Dijk will not allow the presence of Holland boss Louis van Gaal at Celtic’s Champions League clash with Ajax at Celtic Park to put him under any extra pressure.
Van Gaal is reportedly preparing a trip to Glasgow to scout the Hoops defender.
However, the 22-year-old, who signed a four-year deal after joining from FC Groningen in the summer, is focusing on helping the champions get their first points of their Group H campaign.
Speaking after Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday, where Paul Heffernan’s opener was cancelled out after the break by Hoops substitute James Forrest, Van Dijk said: “I just want to play my own game and not put any more pressure on myself.
“If he (Van Gaal) is coming then it will be great, of course, but I still want to play a good game just for myself and we will see what happens.
“It is definitely a dream to play for the national team.”
The Dutchman enjoyed the lunchtime tussle with Hibs, even though it left manager Neil Lennon angry at the home side’s tactics.
The Northern Irishman described some of the tackling as “shocking” and “reckless”.
Goals from Kris Boyd and Jackson Irvine against Ross County gave Kilmarnock boss Allan Johnston his first win since taking over at Rugby Park in the summer.
Boyd prodded the Ayrshire men in front after 17 minutes before Irvine’s second with 19 minutes left in the second period ended the club’s 12-game run without victory and extended their lead over Hearts at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership to 13 points.
Hearts lost 2-1 at Motherwell, despite taking the lead through Ryan Stevenson.
Craig Moore equalised from 22 yards within 30 seconds of coming off the bench and Shaun Hutchinson headed home with eight minutes left.
