Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths has scored a memorable hat-trick by picking up yet another honour.
The former Dundee frontman has added the prestigious Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s player of the year title to the PFA Scotland young player and Clydesdale Bank player of the season awards he already had in the bag.
It is a fantastic achievement for Griffiths, who is set to lead the line for the Hibees against the Dark Blues at Easter Road on Saturday then in the William Hill Scottish Cup final against Celtic a week on Sunday.
Commenting on his terrific treble, Griffiths said: “If you had said to me at the start of the season that I would get the PFA young player of the year, the Clydesdale Bank SPL player of the year and now the football writers’ player of the year I would have snapped your hand off in about eight pieces!
“It has been a really great season and now I want to continue right through these last two games. It is going to be a monumental week, with all the build-up to the Celtic match,” added Griffiths, who is understood to have a good chance of making the Scotland squad for the upcoming game in Croatia.
“Half my family are Hibs fans and they are really up for the final but I keep stressing to them that there’s still another game to go before that and it’s a good one to finish off with if it is to be my last league game for Hibs because it’s against my old club Dundee.”
