It has looked like a three-way League One relegation battle for weeks between Cowdenbeath, Forfar and rock bottom Brechin.
However, City have won five out of their last six games to sit on the same points as the Loons and just two behind the Blue Brazil on 35.
That means Stenhousemuir on 36 and even Airdrie and Albion Rovers on 39 will be looking anxiously over their shoulders.
The fact that the trio all have fixtures against the bottom three in the last four matches of the season makes Dods believe no-one can take anything for granted apart from the fact that it will be a thrilling finale to the season for all concerned.
He said: “I thought our win last week against Stenny was fully deserved.
“The first-half was quite even but we were on top after the break and we took the lead thanks to a great goal by Robert Thomson.
“Their keeper had to make a couple of great saves but we were just delighted to secure another three points.
“Jaseem Sukur made his debut after coming in on loan from Dundee United and he did really well.
“I have to thank United boss Mixu Paatelainen, who I know from our time together at St Johnstone, for letting him come to the club.
“I obviously know United well and I am still in touch with their youth coach Dave Bowman as well.
Dods added: “We needed to bring Jaseem in as we had problems at the back including myself with a thigh injury. I am still a week away and we will also be without Jonathan Tiffoney who is suspended after being sent off against Stenny.
“However, Willie Dyer returns after his ban and David Weatherston and Darren McCormack are fit again after injury.
“We have built up a good bit of momentum and confidence winning five out of six and we now have another tough game at Cowdenbeath.
“It is never an easy place to go to and they will have been boosted by their recent wins over Peterhead and then Ayr last week.
“Those were big results and they will be looking to carry that on at home.
“People might say it is between ourselves, Forfar and Cowdenbeath but Stenny are just on 36 points, while Airdrie and Albion Rovers are on 39.
“They still have to play the teams at the bottom so it is certainly looking like it will be a nail-biting end to the season.”
