SIMON MURRAY ended a nine-week goal drought to fire Arbroath to the brink of the League Two play-offs and show Dundee United they were right to sign him.
Murray netted a leveller as the Gayfield side moved to within four points of a guaranteed play-off place despite just one win in 2015.
And the striker, who earned a £50,000 switch to the Premiership side in January and was loaned back to the Lichties, is keen to fire Arbroath to promotion and bolster his chances of making the grade at Tannadice next term.
“I’m delighted that I can finally go into training at Dundee United this week with a goal,” said former plumber Murray.
“I’ve been getting a bit of stick for my lack of goals and I think people have been wondering who they have signed.
“But when we were playing well earlier in the season I was banging in the goals and, just as Arbroath’s form dipped, so did mine.
“I’m sure I can get it back.
“I’m also confident we can still go up through the play-offs.
“No-one should be writing us off.
“In my opinion we are the best footballing side in the league on our day.
“If we can get to the play-offs then we will wipe the slate clean and try to win them.
“Everything will be forgotten about if we win them to go up and I can go back to United on a real high.
“It would mean everything to me to help Arbroath get promotion.
“They have done wonders for my career by giving me the platform to win my big move and they will always be in my heart because of it.”
Murray pounced to drill home from 15 yards after Kenny Mackay put Annan ahead.
The point edges Arbroath closer to guaranteeing third place but leaves Annan still trailing in their own bid to nick a play-off berth.
The borders side lie three points behind fourth-placed East Fife.
