Albion Rovers survived a late onslaught from Brechin to climb to third in the League One table, but Brechin boss Darren Dods was disappointed that his side’s pressure did not come from the start of the game.
The defeat leaves Brechin anchored to bottom spot in the division, now four points behind second-bottom Cowdenbeath.
Brechin had a chance after 10 seconds when a half-volley from Andy Jackson was turned round the post by Ross Stewart.
The home side had the better of the opening period, but fell behind on 24 minutes. Joshua Mullin crossed from the right and Paul Willis headed home.
Jonathan Tiffoney had the ball in the net for Brechin, but the flag was up for offside against Jackson earlier in the move.
Brechin upped their game in the second half and on 57 minutes Paul McLean went on a run and his shot was saved by Stewart.
McLean then excelled at the other end with two blocks from net-bound efforts.
Albion were dangerous on the break and on 72 minutes they carried the ball the length of the pitch and Ally Love drove inches wide.
Brechin were still in the game and with five minutes left, a header from Darren McCormack was blocked on the line before the ball was scrambled clear.
A minute later a 35-yard screamer from Willie Dyer found its way through a crowded box and crashed back off the Albion post.
Dods said: “In the last 15 minutes we were camped in their half, hit the post and had one off the line, but I’m disappointed as we wanted to put them under pressure from the start and never achieved that.
“We were in the game right to the end, but we were hoping for that bit of luck.”
Brechin were minus strikers Dene Shields and Robert Thomson through injury, but Dods refused to use that as an excuse.
“That is what we have a squad for. We had enough quality on the park to create more chances and give them more problems.”
