Raith Rovers boss not ruling out more signings

Raith Rovers boss Grant Murray has not ruled another swoop in the transfer market in or out after strengthening his squad at short notice last week.

Rovers moved quickly to snap up full-back Fraser Mullen on Friday on a permanent contract until the end of the season following his release from Hibs, and it remains to be seen if the Kirkcaldy club will do any more business before the transfer window shuts.

Murray told Courier Sport that there is nothing happening on the transfer front at the moment, but the very nature of the window means it is a case of never say never at Stark’s Park.

Whatever happens though, Murray was happy with the way the latest acquisition has settled in.

“I said last week that there was nothing happening and we got offered Fraser Mullen on loan and it was a no-no,” he said.

“And then within half a day things change and it was right for us to bring him in. He fitted in tremendously well.

“He hasn’t had a lot of first team experience or games this season and for him to slot in the way he did was brilliant.”

Rovers could not take Mullen on loan last week due to the presence of Hibs left-back Callum Booth at Stark’s Park, with SPFL loan rules dictating that only one player can be loaned to another club.

An agreement was reached to release Mullen from his contract at Hibs, although the loan rules have since been changed and would have meant Rovers could have taken two players from Easter Road after all.

However, Murray is not up nor down about the turn of events.

He said: “The loan rules only changed on Monday night but it’s not frustrating because the rules were there, they were put in place and everybody was happy with them.

“The rules have changed now, so be it. There’s nothing you can do.

“You can sit here and say it’s frustrating but it doesn’t make any difference.”
