Gary Caldwell vows to help Wigan return to Premier League
ByThe Courier Reporter
Scotland defender Gary Caldwell has vowed to help Wigan regain their Premier League status at the first attempt.
Just days after their FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City at Wembley, the Latics’ eight-year stay in the top-flight came to an end on Tuesday night after a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.
Captain Caldwell is now preparing for Championship football next term along with fellow Scotland internationals Shaun Maloney and James McArthur.
Caldwell said: “We have to pick ourselves up and regroup, and the fans need to stick by us.
“We have to make sure we get back into this league as quickly as we can, and that’s the challenge to the players. It’s obviously a huge blow for everyone at the football club.
“After the huge high at the weekend, winning the FA Cup, it’s hard to take but it is what it is.”
