Scotland goalkeeper Allan McGregor is suspended for September’s visit of group leaders Belgium after picking up his second yellow card of the World Cup qualifying campaign during Friday’s memorable win over Croatia.
The Besiktas shot-stopper was penalised for time wasting by Spanish referee David Fernandez Borbalan at the end of the first half after Robert Snodgrass had scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game.
McGregor’s suspension opens the door for either Cardiff’s David Marshall or Blackpool keeper Matt Gilks for the clash with the Belgians.
Midfielder Charlie Adam will be available for that match after serving a one-game ban against the Croatians. vJames McArthur and Steven Whittaker were also booked in Zagreb.
Grant Hanley, Gary Caldwell, Robert Snodgrass, Liam Bridcutt, Jordan Rhodes, Steven Fletcher and Kenny Miller are the other Scotland players carrying yellow cards.
Scotland defender Russell Martin hailed Friday’s 1-0 win over Croatia as one of the proudest moments of his career.
Gordon Strachan’s men pulled off a major shock when they claimed their first win of the World Cup qualifying campaign in Zagreb against the top seeds.
Talk before the match had centred on how many goals the Croats would win by as they battled with Belgium for top spot in Group A.
Instead, it was Robert Snodgrass who proved to be the difference on the night with the only goal of the game after 26 minutes, lifting the Scots off the bottom of the section.
And Martin, whose usual position is right back but who played in the heart of defence alongside Grant Hanley, was one of the star performers on the night.
He told BBC Scotland: “It’s probably one of my proudest nights in football to be honest.”
The Norwich defender said: “I think we have shown people we have got the quality when it’s needed.
“It was backs to the wall stuff in the second half but we were resilient and strong. It’s a massive result, a magnificent result.”
Describing his goal, Snodgrass said: “I just gambled. It was a great run from Shaun Maloney and as a winger that’s what you’re told to do, to gamble.
“I did that and, luckily enough for myself, I got the goal.”
