Ryan Gauld played a starring role in Sporting Lisbon’s 1-0 win over Boavista in Portugal’s League Cup last night.
The 19-year-old, who joined Sporting from Dundee United for £2.2 million in July, won the penalty that led to the 75th minute winner for the 10-man hosts.
The young Scot was brought down by the Boavista keeper, Daniel Monllor, with Junya Tanaka netting from the spot to take the Lisbon side six points ahead in Group C.
Gauld was substituted in the final minute of the game and named man of the match.
