Scotland’s players will be giving their all when they face Serbia despite pride being the only thing up for grabs now.
The Scots’ miserable World Cup qualifying campaign continued on Friday night, when Gordon Strachan’s team lost 2-1 at Hampden to Wales to remain stuck at the bottom of Group A.
Tomorrow they will be in Novi Sad to take on the Serbs in what could be yet another painful experience for the Tartan Army.
Charlie Mulgrew, who put in the cross for Scotland’s goal against the Welsh, is frustrated that the dream of Brazil in long gone but he stressed the players are desperate to get a decent result.
“We have to be positive and approach every game looking to win it,” said the Celtic man.
“There is nothing else we can do other than give 100% for our country. It is still early days under the manager and I am sure he will look at what happened in the Wales match then quickly move on and try to get a result in Serbia.”
“We didn’t get off to a great start in that match but we got the goal and that gave us something to hold on to,” said Mulgrew.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t happen for us. It is hard to say what went wrong and we will need to look at it again.
“Of course every manager needs time, especially at international level. It will take time but the players have every belief in him.
“He will have plans for the game and how we can hurt Serbia. He has brought in his own ideas but they will take a while to bed in.”
Mulgrew added: “Progress is being made, though, and we have to keep listening to the manager and take on board what he is saying to us.”
