Dundee new boy Charlie Grant last night revealed how he made up his mind to join the Dark Blues as soon as he walked through the Dens Park door.
Now he wants to feel right at home in the centre of the park when they go to Firhill to take on Partick Thistle.
The 23-year-old former Celtic man, who signed one a one-year contract, will add grit to a team that crashed out of the Alba Challenge Cup to Stenhousemuir in midweek.
He has been on the sidelines for two-and-a-half years with a pelvic injury but is fully fit once again and is ready to make his mark.
“The gaffer phoned me to see if I wanted to come up and have a look about,” he said.
“As soon as I got here I knew it was the place for me.
“I got a good feeling about it.
“I was on trial elsewhere before I came here but this was the best move for me.
“I have been out for a couple of years with a pelvic injury but I am fit again and all I want is first-team football.
“The gaffer has taken a chance on me and I want to repay him.
“Obviously I will have to wait and see whether I am selected against Partick but I am certainly ready and desperate to play if he wants me to.
“I have spoken to (assistant boss) Billy Dodds who said there are a lot of technically-gifted players here but in any team you need a balance.
“So you need guys who are able to put their foot in.
“My job is sitting in the middle of the park and sweeping up any loose balls then giving them to the forward players.
“So I will hopefully add a bit of steel to the side.”
Chisholm was dismayed by the display against the Warriors and reckons Grant will supply solidity to the Dark Blues.
“Charlie has been unfortunate with injuries but he has been fit for the last eight months,” he said.
“I said the other night that we got bullied and we don’t want that to happen again.
“We brought Charlie in for that very reason because he is very competitive.
“He is a good age and will be a great addition to the squad.”
Dundee have defenders Rhys Weston and Eric Paton doubtful because of injury, while Netan Sansara has been released by the club.
Recent recruit Jamie Adams will start after missing the win over Queen of the South through suspension and, although normally deployed in midfield, he could slot into the backline.
Partick manager Ian McCall is keeping his playing assistant Ian Maxwell guessing if he will be starting as cover for the suspended Willie Kinniburgh or whether another option such as on-loan
Hearts youngster Conrad Balatoni will get the call.
Maxwell said, “I am ready to play, however the boss has tried a few things in training and he will let us know the team on Saturday morning.
“This will be a strange game as we are still trying to get the result at Raith Rovers out of our system from last weekend and Dundee will want to do likewise after losing to Stenhousemuir.”
The Jags are also missing the injured pair of Jackie McNamara and Alan Archibald.
