Dunfermline are hoping to bring Manchester United to East End Park in a glamour friendly to mark the club”s 125th anniversary.
Talks have taken place between the English giants and the Pars, and Jim Leishman, director of football at Dunfermline, said he was “95% certain” that they would come.
“It would be a Manchester United XI,” he said.
“We have been trying to bring them to Dunfermline and hope to have things finalised (today).
“If it comes off it would be great for the fans.”
Manchester United came to Dunfermline for Scott Thomson’s testimonial match in 2007.
Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United, was a former player for the Pars, scoring 91 goals for the club.
The Pars have lined up pre-season matches away to Arbroath on July 7 and East Fife on July 13.
The club will also play at home to Aberdeen on July 21, and are waiting to hear back from Hibs regarding another pre-season friendly at East End Park.
