Garry Kenneth thinks one of the secrets of United’s success is they turned the tables on Ross County.
He thinks the Highlanders were knocked off their stride by the Tangerines’ harrying tactics, which left them with little time on the ball.
“I thought we started really well and we did to them what they were hoping to do to us,” he said.
“We passed the ball well, pressed them really well and never really gave them time to settle into the game.
“There wasn’t any real concern on my part that we took so long to score because we knew if we kept playing well then a goal would come at some point.
“And I don’t think we looked like losing a goal at any point in the game.
“Once we went 1-0 up I thought that was it done and dusted.
“We ended up being comfortable but I would have taken a 1-0 win in the last minute.
“It doesn’t matter how you win the cup as long as you win it.”
This success was third time lucky in finals for Kenneth, who played in the 2005 Scottish Cup showpiece against Celtic and the 2008 CIS Cup against Rangers.
“I made my cup final debut in 2005 and a lot of managers and players have come and gone since then,” he said.
“I promised myself that if I got back to another Scottish Cup final I would not leave without a winner’s medal and I have done it.
“We are going to enjoy ourselves and it means so much to everybody.
“It won’t sink in until the hangovers have worn off. That will probably be in July!”
