St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes wants his players to embark on next season’s SPL campaign as if it is their first.
Promoted Dunfermline will be the new boys in the top flight, but the Perth boss is keen his squad will also have the attitude of freshers.
He said, “You look at the footage and pictures of Dunfermline’s celebrations over the weekend and that was us just two years ago.
“They’ll be coming up with excitement and enthusiasm and I want that back for us as well.”
Bringing an end to their goal drought with two at Easter Road on Saturday has begun the process, McInnes believes.
He said, “It was always the intention to finish the season on a positive, and hopefully we can do that now.
“We had a good night at our supporters’ award dinner last night and we want to give them a few more wins to go into the summer with a bit of a feelgood factor.
“You could see the difference in the players once the first goal went in against Hibs-everybody was in need of it.
“The overriding emotion is one of relief.”
McInnes added, “The fact that we hadn’t scored for so long was down to more than bad luck, but there was no doubt that we were unlucky on a lot of occasions over that period.
“There was nothing lucky though about the determination of Liam Craig and Kevin Moon to get their goals on Saturday.
“They’ve shown togetherness throughout the season and it has to be pointed out that the qualities they’ve shown have ensured we were never involved in a relegation battle at any time.”
Graham Gartland will undergo a hernia operation on Thursday so his season is over. McInnes also confirmed Jody Morris will not play again either.
