Cowdenbeath boss Jimmy Nicholl admits he is in two minds about how to approach his side’s final game of the normal season against Ross County on Saturday.
The Fifers need to beat the Staggies by 11 goals in Dingwall to consign County to a place in the first division play-offs instead of themselves.
With that barrowload of goals not a realistic target, Nicholl now has to weigh up whether he should wrap certain players in cotton wool in preparation for the first leg of their semi-final play-off against either Brechin City or East Fife next Wednesday.
He said, “There are two ways to look at it. A lot depends on how Ross County approach the game.
“If Jimmy Calderwood rests a few players and we go up there at full strength and maybe win by scoring a couple of goals while keeping a clean sheet, then that would be a massive boost to our confidence going into the play-off matches.
“However, we are still quite confident so I have to assess the risk of picking up injuries in certain key positions in Dingwall.
“We have cover in some areas of the team but we would be struggling in others so that is something we have to watch.
“But it would be great to come back down the road on Saturday night with a good performance and maybe a clean sheet under our belts. So, it is something I will have to make a decision about on Thursday night after training.
“To be honest, the most important thing is that we are properly prepared for next Wednesday.
“We have no preference who we face-we just have to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we are mentally ready.”
