Dundee United boss Peter Houston has paid tribute to “model pro” Darren Dods as the big defender prepares to exit Tannadice.
Dods, who turns 36 next month, will not have his contract renewed this summer and departs after six years at the club.
The centre-half has spent most of this campaign on the touchlines recovering from injury but as he nears a return to full fitness, he has held talks with first division Falkirk’s boss Steven Pressley about moving to the Bairns for next season.
It was Houston who recommended the veteran to Pressley and the United boss believes Dods could play for years to come.
“Darren is a great professional,” said Houston. “He has been unfortunate this season with injury but wherever he ends up, they will be getting a top player.
“He has unbelievable dedication, has looked after himself and loves training. That’s why he is in the shape he’s in and why he can continue for a while yet.
“I spoke to Steven Pressley about him and said that he would be getting a model pro.
“Darren is not like other guys his age who like to train just once or twice a week he wants to be working hard every day.
“He sets a fine example to other players and is great to have around a dressing-room. Wherever he ends up, he will be an asset to anyone.”
United, who have been linked with a move for John Rankin following his release from Hibs, will face Motherwell for the seventh time this season on Saturday with a full squad to choose from.
Defender Keith Watson is available following a recent injury absence.
“Andis Shala, who has been working in the gym because of the hard ground on our training pitches, will also be available,” said Houston.
