Confidence will be the key to success at the highest level for in-demand Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.

That is the view of now former teammate Morgaro Gomis, who has left Tannadice at the concusion of his contract.

The wee midfielder loved supplying some of the ammunition for Goodwillie’s 19 goals in the season just ended.

That impressive tally, as well as being named Scotland’s young player of the year, has sparked intense interest in the Scotland internationalist, with the Old Firm, Chelsea, Liverpool, Birmingham and Bristol City already linked.

Should he move on from the Tangerines, Gomis insists Goodwillie will be a success wherever he ends up because he oozes confidence.

“Whoever signs Goodie won’t be disappointed because he has everything,” said Gomis.

“Most of all, he has the necessary self-belief to take him to the highest level.

“If he stays in Scotland he will be a huge success but if he goes down to England then he can make just as big an impact there.

“I know from playing with him for the past few years that he has all the attributes a top striker needs these days.

“Every time he goes out on to the park he believes that he is going to find the net.

“It will be very interesting to see where he goes but the one thing for sure is that he will be a success.”

Senegal star Gomis, meanwhile, is enjoying a short summer break before looking to kick-start his career elsewhere.

“I am back in Paris with my family for a few days,” he said.

“I will be keeping fit in between, though, so that when the phone rings I will be ready for whatever might happen.

“It is time for me to move on to a fresh challenge and I am really excited about the future.”
