Former Montrose FC manager Steven Tweed calls time on his playing days at senior level

Former Montrose player/manager Steven Tweed, who resigned from his position at Links Park in March due to the work commitments, has decided to call time on his senior playing career after more than two decades.
The 38-year-old centre back played his first game for Hibs as a 17-year-old in 1989.
He had intended to keep performing in the SFL, but has now decided to end his playing days at a much more local level.
The former Dundee and East Fife man said, “When I gave up the Montrose manager’s job I had hoped to keep on playing senior, but I have now decided against that.
“I want to keep playing but not with the travelling that would be required at an SFL club, so I will look for a local junior or amateur side to play for.”
Tweed hasn’t ruled out getting involved in the senior game again.
He pointed out, “Work continues to make that impractical at the moment. However, should that change, I may return to either management or a job coaching youngsters at a later date.”
