Dunfermline have appointed Austin McCann as their new club captain.
McCann takes over from Stephen Glass, who was released by the Pars.
The appointment comes just six months after the former Hearts player was substituted at Firhill after gifting Partick Thistle a goal and then left out of the Fifers’ starting line-up for eight weeks.
McCann later revealed that being hooked six minutes from half-time against the Jags was the lowest point of his career.
But so impressed was manager Jim McIntyre by the attitude he showed in training that after restoring him to the side he made him stand-in captain for the sidelined Glass a role that has now been made permanent.
McIntyre said, “Austin really showed what he is made of after taking on the captaincy last year.
“Being skipper seemed to bring the best out of him form-wise.”
He added, “He was solid and steady and that made him the obvious choice when I was deciding who’d skipper the side next season.
“His response to being left out following the Partick game was fantastic and when he got the armband he led the team really well.’
