Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn trusts his players not to return for pre-season training on June 22 “fit to burst.”
However the club will still use sports science to assess whether any of them have overindulged during their close-season break.
McGlynn said, “All the players have been given a programme of training to do while they are off.
“The programme is more about just ticking over and general maintenance than hard training.
“It does involve a lot of trust but players nowadays are much more responsible about these things than they might have been in the past.”
He added, “The off-season break is not as long as it once was when players would sometimes come back a stone overweight now it is more likely to be the manager coming back a stone overweight!
“The squad had their body fat levels measured before they went off and they will be taken again on the first day back to tell us how much they have dropped away.”
McGlynn said, “Some, like Mark Campbell who is normally one of our fittest players will have a lot of work to do after his car accident.
“Craig Wilson has been doing loads of running recently but he missed the last few months of the season after breaking his arm and he will also need some extra work.”
The manager also said he is looking to add another pre-season friendly to the three organised (against Forfar, Montrose and Berwick) but is waiting to hear back from the club involved.
