Raith Rovers v Morton: Rovers keeping their feet fixed firmly on the ground

John Baird insists the Raith Rovers’ players are keeping their feet firmly fixed on the ground.

The Kirkcaldy side have made a perfect start to their first division campaign with two wins out of two.

Those results have done much to dispel the doom and gloom surrounding the club at the end of last season when Rovers missed out on promotion to Dunfermline and saw a number of players leave following budget cuts.

However, as they prepare to face Morton today, Baird has stressed there is still a lot of work to be done.

He said: “We have made a good start but we have to remember it is early days and we are only two games in, so nobody is getting carried away.

“I know it is a cliche but we are just taking it one game at a time. We have an important fixture against Morton, then a big cup match at Airdrie followed by Ayr in the league in the space of a week.

“I am also enjoying playing with big Brian Graham up front at the moment.

“It was good that Brian got his first goal last week since joining us from Morton but to be honest, it was not a problem.

“People always get worked up about a striker scoring his first goal for a club but as long as he is adding something to the team and playing well, then there should not be a concern and the big lad has been doing that.

“We are not taking anything for granted though as Stevie Reynolds is champing at the bit but hopefully, we can continue to play well against Morton who will be really dangerous opponents.”

While Baird and Graham have formed a promising partnership, boss John McGlynn admits he has concerns about Morton’s front pairing.

He said: “Morton have had a great start to the season in the cups as well as the league, picking up a point at Dingwall and then following that up with a good win over an impressive Livingston side.

“They obviously signed former St Johnstone strikers Andy Jackson and Peter MacDonald during the summer.

“MacDonald has years of experience and Jackson is a great foil for him so we will have to be sharp and defend well against them.

“But we are at home and this is a great opportunity to continue our good start.”

McGlynn will miss the injured Iain Davidson, while Morton will be without Andy Graham, Stuart McCaffrey and Sean Fitzharris.
