Dundee’s Richie Hart flew out on holiday to Mexico safe in the knowledge that his immediate footballing future had been secured.
Dens Park gaffer Gordon Chisholm told midfielder Hart last month that he was surplus to requirements at the club, despite having a year left on his contract.
The former Inverness and Ross County player could have opted to stay at Dundee and continue picking up a wage packet while not playing.
However, he was determined to chase his dream of experiencing football abroad and his hopes have now been realised after his agent struck a deal with Swedish side Ostersunds FK.
The club, which is managed by former Hearts player Lee Makel, has signed Hart on a six-month loan deal.
Hart said, “I was keeping my fingers crossed that everything would be sorted before I left for my holiday.
“So it is a big relief that I can now enjoy my break before coming back and working hard to impress my new manager in Sweden.”
He added, “I have always wanted to play abroad and it really is a dream come true.
“I cannot wait to sample a different culture and style of football.”
Hart said, “Hopefully, if it all works out for me, I will be able to convince Ostersunds to extend my stay.”
Meanwhile, Hearts are believed to be mulling over making an offer for Dundee’s star striker Leigh Griffiths.
