Dundee defender Craig McKeown admits he is sick of hearing praise for the Dark Blues, when all that really matters is picking up points.
Following on from their loss at Falkirk, which came about from a winnable position, Dundee dominated against Hamilton before losing the only goal of the game when Mark McLaughlin scored on 66 minutes.
Dundee should have been in front, as Steven Milne, Nicky Riley and Stephen O’Donnell were all denied by Hamilton goalkeeper Tomas Cerny.
Inspired play from the Czech was a major part of it but Dundee lack confidence in attack and it showed in the finishing.
Saturday’s loss leaves them at the bottom of the table but McKeown has assured fans their time propping up the First Division will only be fleeting.
”It’s no consolation to hear people say how well we played,” he said. ”But we can’t feel sorry for ourselves we will just pick ourselves up and go again.
”Hamilton scored a nothing goal after we had all the chances. That’s the way things are going for us we are not getting a rub of the green when it matters.
”It has been the same story for a few weeks. Against Falkirk people praised us for the way we played and we’re getting it again. The bottom line is that we’ve come away with nothing from the last two games.
”This league is so tight that two wins would take you to second-top. Seven points separates the whole division.”
Cerny was outstanding for Billy Reid’s men, denying Dundee several times before his team took the lead.
Milne should have opened the scoring after 12 minutes but shot weakly into the keeper’s hands.
And the rest of the first half then developed into a personal battle between the pair.
Cerny denied him again on 30 minutes, turning a shot from the edge of the box around the post after great set-up play by Riley.
Again Milne could not find a way, this time with an angled shot which looked to be looping over his head but the Czech keeper grasped the ball.
He also denied O’Donnell by deflecting his low drive on to the post before clasping a Riley shot.
That gave Accies the platform and their mugging occurred on 66 minutes with their first foray into Dundee’s box.
The Dark Blues fell asleep at a Dougie Imrie corner and that left McLaughlin space to nod a header past Rab Douglas into the top corner.
Dundee manager Barry Smith criticised his strikers for their wayward finishing, saying: ”We are making basic errors and it’s costing us.
”Tomas Cerny played very well he is a very good goalkeeper but I expect my players to score when we get into the positions we did.”
