Arbroath boss Paul Sheerin’s search for an assistant manager continues after his first-choice candidate turned him down.
Former St Johnstone midfielder Sheerin intends to combine managing with playing next season and is looking for an experienced right-hand man to share the workload.
He had targeted Ray Farningham, who has been out of out of football since he and Jocky Scott parted company with Dundee in May, to fill the post.
However, the popular ‘Jinky’ has decided to pursue other avenues.
Sheerin said, “We held talks on Tuesday night after he returned from holiday but he has opted for something different.
“I am now looking at another couple of people and I am hoping to have something concluded sooner rather than later.”
He added, “As I have said before, I do need experience beside me and Ray fitted the bill perfectly, but it is important that I get the right person in as I am intending to play for a bit longer.”
Sheerin has had better luck adding to his playing roster for next season with Alan Rattray signing on for another year and the experienced former St Johnstone, Dundee United and Dundee defender Danny Griffin joining the Lichties for the next 12 months.
Sheerin said, “I was delighted that Alan decided to sign again.
“He came back from his holiday to do so which showed his commitment to the club and myself.”
He added, “I was also pleased that Danny has signed for Arbroath. He has bags of experience at the top level and of course helped Livingston win the third division title last season.
“I am still trying to bring other new faces to the club.”
