St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson has refused to get caught up in speculation linking him with a reunion with former boss Derek McInnes at Bristol City.
McInnes recently reaffirmed his admiration for the player he bought from Livingston, prompting conjecture that a transfer window bid could be on its way north in January.
The Ashton Gate manager stated: ”I want to bring in good players, so I can’t say there’s no interest whatsoever on my part. Right now I’m still assessing my squad and seeing what we need to go forward. But certainly I’ve no doubts Murray could come down and play in the Championship.
”It wouldn’t be awkward for me to go back to St Johnstone for one of their players but if I did have an interest their chairman would be the first to know about it. At the minute I’m concentrating on assessing the players I’ve got likewise Murray will just be focusing on doing his best for St Johnstone.”
Davidson, who has been straight back to his best after a lengthy lay-off with a knee injury, admitted the quotes had been brought to his attention. But he’ll take them in his stride just as he did when Rangers had a £250,000 bid knocked back in the summer.
The Scotland under-21 international said: ”My mate texted me about what the old gaffer had said and if managers talk favourably about you it’s got to be a compliment.
”He is going great guns down there but I’m concentrating on St Johnstone. That is all I can do.
”I’m used to it now after going through the Rangers speculation. It’s part and parcel of football. I would rather have people talking about me than not.
”But there is a point in everyone’s career when you want to go further. Every young player thinks about testing themselves in England and I’d be lying if I said I was any different. I’m not ruling it out.
”But at the moment I don’t set myself any targets. I am 100% focused on St Johnstone and any speculation isn’t for me to worry about.”
