Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn insists nobody at Stark’s Park is ready to start pushing the panic button despite the fact the Kirkcaldy side have slumped to the bottom of the First Division.
Queen of the South’s win over Ayr on Saturday allied to Rovers defeat in Dingwall to table-topping Ross County conspired to leave them propping up the table.
However, with only five points separating Raith from fourth-placed Patrick and more than half of the season to go, McGlynn says he is not overly concerned by their position.
He said: ”You have to play the cards you are dealt and Ross County was possibly the worst fixture we could have had after beating Hamilton.
”We were looking to build a bit of momentum but were unlucky enough to meet a side in top form. Their performance was possibly the best we have seen this season.
”They definitely have the greatest strength in depth of any side in the First Division. They added to their squad at the right time when just about everyone else in the league was cutting back. They took steps to give them a chance of winning promotion to the SPL and they will take some stopping.
”Our defeat and other results have left us bottom of the table, but we are not too worried at the moment. It could be someone else next weekend as it is so tight in this league.
“There is certain to be a lot of yo-yoing dropping down and going up as there are only five points between ourselves and fourth-placed Partick.
”I would obviously much rather be in fourth place but there are still 21 games to go to get us into a much better position.”
Raith picked up a few knocks on Saturday with Willie Dyer, Iain Williamson and Allan Walker left nursing minor injuries.
McGlynn is hoping all three will be fit to face Livingston on Saturday and his options could be bolstered by the return of Joe Hamill who has started training again after a few weeks on the sidelines.
The Ross County game also saw the return of influential midfielder Iain Davidson who came off the bench and McGlynn admitted having him available again is a big bonus.
He added: ”Iain has been out for a while so it was good to have him back. He has been a big player for us throughout my time at the club.”
