Dundee United manager Peter Houston will now look elsewhere to find attacking talent after the club dropped their interest in Dougie Imrie.
The Tangerines had offered £25,000 to Hamilton for the striker but Accies wanted more and the 28-year-old has today signed for St Mirren, who agreed to pay £35,000.
While Houston was keen to bring Imrie to Tannadice, he will now turn his attentions elsewhere.
Milos Lacny, the former Celtic target who played in a bounce game on Wednesday, is one option for the United boss. The Slovakian frontman did well and is set to be invited back for another trial.
Houston confirmed he was impressed by his trialist and hopes to run the rule over him again next week.
”The boy did well so we will probably bring him back over again for another look at him. That is as far as it has gone, so we will see what happens.
”We have a game against Falkirk on Monday so I would like to see him in that.”
Midfielder John Rankin, meanwhile, has been getting stick from his teammates after going to hospital following a freak accident at the gym.
He was lifting weights when a bit of rubber fell into his eye resulting in his wearing a patch. But his colleagues have been short on sympathy.
”John was in the gym and a bit of rubber the size of a grain of sugar went into his eye,” said Houston. ”So he went up to the hospital to get it checked out and the boys have been slaughtering him. They are asking why he wasn’t kept in overnight.
”But he’s fine, he played in the bounce game and will be OK for Saturday (at home to Motherwell).”
Meanwhile, Houston revealed that he wants to keep Danny Swanson at the club if he has the cash but admits the player may be keen to move on.
”I have not chatted to Danny about a contract yet and it may be the case that he might want to go at the end of the season. But if I can afford to keep Danny at the club then I will.”
