Dundee have reached an agreement with Maros Klimpl to terminate the Slovakian player’s contract.
Klimpl signed a three-year deal last August but was told by Dark Blues boss Gordon Chisholm at the end of the season that he was surplus to requirements.
The player has been linked with a return to his homeland.
However, he could have opted to just sit tight and see out the remainder of his deal at Dens.
Chisholm was determined to end the uncertainty and held clear-the-air talks after training on Monday which resulted in the player agreeing to end his contract.
The midfielder was believed to be one of the highest earners at the club and his departure should give Chisholm room to manoeuvre as he looks to reshape his squad for a promotion push.
“We have reached an agreement with Maros to terminate his contract so he’s free to move on elsewhere,” said Chisholm.
Chisholm has already shipped out another two contracted players in the shape of Chris Casement and Richie Hart, and he hopes to find out today what another, Bryan Deasley, intends to do about his footballing future.
“We discussed Bryan’s situation and he has gone away to have a think about things and he will give me an answer on Tuesday,” added the manager.
Meanwhile, Chisholm admitted he had been impressed by his players’ fitness levels when they returned to pre-season training last Friday.
“I have been pleased with their attitude since they came back it has been first-class,” he added.
“The boys were in good condition so they had obviously been doing a lot of work on their own during their time off.”
