Raith Rovers full-back Craig Wilson is facing a race against time to be fit for the new season after an X-ray revealed his broken arm has not fully healed.
The full-back sustained the injury against Ross County in March and manager John McGlynn had hoped that Wilson would be available again for the league opener against Partick Thistle.
Those plans have now suffered a setback.
However, the rehab of another long-term absentee, car-crash victim Mark Campbell, is on schedule.
“We have had some bad news about Craig,” said McGlynn as he prepared to take his players for a pre-season training session.
“He had another X-ray on his arm and they found that there are still three minor breaks.”
He added, “Craig is not allowed to take part in any contact training in case he gets a knock on it, but he has been doing a lot of running and can do passing drills.
“He goes back on the 20th of July so we are hoping he will receive the all-clear as that is getting close to the start of the new season.”
McGlynn said, “Meanwhile, Mark Campbell is getting through a lot of the training but not every single part of it.
“His leg needs to be strengthened, but Mark works in a gym so he will be able to do that even when at his job.
“He is a wee bit away from full fitness but considering he had a bad car accident and so much time off, he is in a realistic position.”
He added, “Overall, the players came back in fairly decent nick for pre-season training.
“One or two of them had better summers than others but that’s par for the course.
“Overall, the test results were similar to last year or maybe better, but there are aspects to improve on and that’s why we have pre-season training.”
