St Johnstone are still waiting to hear if Chris Millar will accept their offer of a new contract but his answer may not come until the summer.
Manager Steve Lomas is keen to keep the nucleus of his European-chasing squad together for another campaign, and the midfielder falls into that category.
With only two weeks left of the season though, it’s looking like Millar may wait a bit longer to weigh up his options.
Lomas said: ”I have a list of the ones I want to keep and, to be fair to the club, they have made Chris Millar a good offer. I want to keep him, he’s a good player and a great pro to have about the place.
”It’s difficult for the boys as well there is uncertainty for everyone. They want to know what’s happening but we don’t know the budget.
”I think a lot of clubs are in the same position because of what’s happening in Scottish football at the moment.”
He added: ”Keeping players is going to be important. Of course there will be a lot of players available this summer, but do you want to bring them in en masse?
”You have a lot of factors to consider will they settle in, will they take the money on offer, how will they adapt to Scottish football?
”It took Derek (McInnes) four years to build this team and he was able to do it because of continuity. I don’t want to lose that after six months.
”But we have players out of contract so there’s nothing you can do. They might want to wait until the summer to see what their options are.”
