Dunfermline striker David Graham admits his future is shrouded in uncertainty after the East End Park side were relegated on Monday evening.
The 28-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, along with a host of first-team players.
Manager Jim Jefferies is yet to make any decision regarding the future of his squad, but has acknowledged there will be substantial changes as the Pars seek to bounce straight back into the SPL next season.
Financial pruning is also likely to see some of the higher earners moved on, given the club are over £8 million in debt and have just lost top-flight football.
Graham insists all he can do is nervously wait by the phone and pray someone gives him a job for next season.
He said: ”As of next Saturday that is me out of contract. Hopefully I’ve done well enough this year for somebody to take a chance, but who knows?
”I’ve had no offers at all yet. You just have to play it by ear, and there’s the dreaded wait by the phone. That’s football and the way money is nowadays. You’ve got to deal with it. It’s not just me, there are a lot of footballers in that position.”
Dunfermline’s fate was confirmed on Monday night as relegation rivals Hibernian fired three goals in a blistering 20-minute opening spell.
A further goal, albeit erroneously awarded when Paul Hanlon’s shot had not crossed the line, added gloss to the scoreline.
Despite the brutal result, the visitors enjoyed some decent passages of play and created several excellent chances.
For Graham, it was a microcosm of why Dunfermline will be playing their football in the First Division next year.
”I think we were the better team,” he continued. ”We were knocking the ball about well but again mistakes cost us.
”They got three poor goals quickly. We had chances, Jordan (McMillan) had two in the first 15 minutes and hit them straight at the goalie. If he puts them in it’s a totally different game.
”But that’s the way the season’s gone for us this year. We just haven’t been good enough as a team and it shows in where we are in the table.”
